Talks
Finding the awesome at 103m below sea level
Using the love of SCUBA diving to learn about taking calculated risks in business and thriving in challenging times: Technical divers test the limits, managers should do the same. Technical divers are the explorers that dive beyond the accepted limits of normal or ‘recreational’ diving. They use an unusual combination of equipment and skills to do so and frequently find themselves in underwater environments that are more dangerous, but equally, more rewarding than those swum by recreational divers. Ingrid Lotze is one of very few female technical divers in SA. Drawing on her story about her 103m dive, she argues that the sport has much to teach management about taking calculated risks and thriving in challenging times.
The steps we must take to reach gender equality
Ingrid shares her hard-learned lessons about her all-too-common story: a South African woman and her children, verbally and physically abused. She shares the vision to Cultivate Connection between all genders and also provides actions that can be taken today to help stop GBV (gender based violence)
No Space for Just in Case
This talk explores how “just in case” thinking creates cognitive overload, slows decision-making, and leaves people and teams overwhelmed rather than effective. Through a personal story and a simple three-question filter, it offers a practical approach to removing what no longer matters so we can focus, perform, and live with greater clarity and intention. No Space for Just in Case explores what happens when individuals and organisations become overwhelmed by “too much” — too many priorities, too many meetings, too many decisions, and too much communication created just in case it might be needed later. People are constantly busy yet increasingly ineffective, this talk unpacks how cognitive overload erodes focus, decision-making, performance, and wellbeing. Drawing from neuroscience, leadership, communication strategy, and lived experience, Ingrid Lotze introduces a practical approach to removing unnecessary complexity so people and teams can focus on what truly matters. Through the deeply personal story of giving up a four-bedroom home to live and work as global digital nomads with her husband just one suitcase each. Ingrid shares how a simple phrase written on masking tape — “No Space for Just in Case” — evolved into a powerful decision-making filter for both life and business. The talk is not about minimalism or deprivation. It is about intentionality, clarity, and recognising the hidden cost of carrying too much mentally, emotionally, and operationally.

About
As a rebel-hearted communications professional I use my nomadic work life as foundational storytelling for teaching cross-cultural and interpersonal communication skills. Being allergic to noise of all kinds, I'm exceptional at aligning corporate message with purpose. My passion is helping people master the use of communication as the connective tissue of everything they build and do. My work falls between strategic communication and cultivating genuine human connection. I am a certified facilitator, coach & trainer; entrepreneur; TEDx and keynote speaker; peak performance catalyst; women's empowerment NPO volunteer; Industry awards judge; scuba instructor; digital nomad, and kind human being.
My story
Ingrid didn't set out to be a speaker. She set out to make a difference — and the speaking grew up around the work. Three decades into a career that began in communications and brand strategy, Ingrid is best known today as a certified facilitator, trainer and coach. Her workshops on communication, gender and inclusion sit at the heart of the mission to Cultivate Connection. The programme called Cultivating Connection co-designed with her husband and business partner forms the basis of everything they aim to achieve. Whether is was developing a Teens-to-Queens program to help young women find their voice and place in the world; volunteering for Women For Afrika or sitting on industry judging panels for global and local communication awards, the stage was not the main aim. They came along the way. Having done two TEDx talks: one on the steps we must take to reach gender equality, and one a love letter to diving the Blue Hole, she has translated her workshop voice into wider rooms. CreativeMornings, conferences, panels and broadcast interviews have followed when her message was the right fit for the audience. What you get when Ingrid takes the stage is the same Ingrid you'd get in a coaching session or workshop. Warm, curious, deeply practical, allergic to noise and abstraction. She uses what she calls everyday tools in her teaching, coaching and speaking all solidly based in discernment as a discipline, respect for others, Appreciative Inquiry, key communication skills fine tuned over 30 years in the profession. Ingrid loves to turn good intentions into changed cultures.
