Quietly Powerful: Leadership for the Ones Who Don’t Shout
Find out why “louder” isn’t the same as “stronger” in leadership, and how quiet confidence creates impact
You don’t have to shout to be heard. As an introverted woman in engineering leadership, I spent years trying to lead like someone I wasn’t - louder, tougher, constantly proving myself. It was exhausting… and unnecessary. In this talk, I’ll share how I stopped trying to fit the mold and started leading with clarity, calm, and quiet confidence, and how you can too. I’ll unpack the pressure so many tech leaders feel to perform leadership rather than live it, and offer a new, more sustainable path. Whether you’re introverted, overlooked, or just done with the noise, this talk will help you build influence, trust, and visibility without burning out or pretending to be someone you’re not. * Find out why “louder” isn’t the same as “stronger” in leadership, and how quiet confidence creates impact * Hear real stories from my journey as an introverted engineering leader trying to fit in (and finally leading on my terms) * Understand practical strategies to build trust, influence, and visibility without burning out or performing * Leverage a new, more inclusive model of leadership for anyone who’s ever felt like they didn’t belong in the spotlight
I’m a former Director of Engineering at DigitalOcean with 20+ years in tech, specializing in scalable engineering leadership, decision-making, and high-performance team culture. Today, I speak globally on the patterns that help technical leaders grow from execution to strategic influence. I also host ‘From a Woman to a Leader,’ a podcast dedicated to discussing women’s unique challenges in tech leadership.
I started my tech career as a software engineer and grew into Director of Engineering at DigitalOcean, leading platform and infrastructure teams and scaling organizations through high-stakes growth. Along the way, I learned that strong technical outcomes come from strong leadership patterns, not louder voices or bigger titles. Today, I speak about the shifts that help engineers become influential leaders and help teams operate with clarity, trust, and strategic impact.
